Welcome to Croatia – Sorry, But We Can’t Let You In.
Istria, Croatia We sailed Berkeley East to Croatia for two reasons: one, we had heard about the great cruising...
At some point we had to turnaround to head back to the US, but the Grenadines are so nice that we headed further and further south. This time we ended up in the Tobago Cays, a small group of deserted islands protected from the Atlantic seas by a large reef.
The water is bright blue, turquoise and green, with white sand beaches. This was the best snorkeling we have seen in the Caribbean. The reefs were very shallow and full of coral sponges and all types of sea life. We saw lobster, eels and beautifully colored fish everywhere we looked.
We enjoyed sunset on the beach with a nice bottle of wine, watching a kite surfer jump dinghies while sailing through the anchored yachts.
It turned out that the Cays were a popular stop for the large French charter cats on their way to Martinique and we found ourselves in tight quarters as everyone tried to squeeze into the anchorage.
The waters where so clear and beautiful we found it hard to leave, but we had pushed our time south as far as we could and need to start back to meet up with friends in Les Saintes, Guadeloupe. So after a few days of great snorkeling, we reluctantly left the Cays and turned Berekely East north and began the long trip back to the US.
