Summer in North Carolina and a New Plan For 2009 / 2010
Cornelius, North Carolina Berkeley East is doing well, resting nicely at the marina in Hampton, VA, while we enjoy...
After a couple days in a quite anchorage at the entrance to the NY/NJ harbor, we sailed into the upper New York bay, past the Statute of Liberty and Ellis Island this morning to a marina across from Manhattan.
This is a busy place. Our commercial vessel tracking system (AIS) showed 128 targets (freighter, tugs, barges, ferries, etc..) that we need to watch out for as we entered the harbor.
We spent a couple of days in Liberty Park and then moved across the river to Manhattan. We stayed in North Cove Marina, which is right in the heart of the city at “Ground Zero”. Our slip mate was Stars and Stripes, Dennis Conner’s America’s Cup 12 meter. Phil Pirozzi, a good friend, joined us for a day on the boat and to show us a great meal in NYC.
