Faial Azores – The Blue Island
Horta Azores We were met by the ARC rally crew, and Splendido, when we arrived in Horta, the main sailing port on...
After we finished with the Caribbean 1500 parties, we headed back to Tortola to recover from all the fun. We left Virgin Gorda in a large North swell, and as we exit the harbor there were surfers ridding 5′ waves right next to Berekely East. It looked like we would need to go through the surf, but at the last minute a channel opened up and we made our way around the waves.
It was a very short trip across the channel to Trellis Bay Tortola, where we meet up with Andy and Irene on Aphrodite. We spent the next few days relaxing on Berkeley East and catching up on our reading.
Then we were off to Nanny Cay to finish up some repairs that didn’t get completed in our rush to leave Annapolis. This marina is beginning to feel like home for Berkeley East as she spent a month here last year getting repaired after she was hit in St Thomas. It is a nice marina with a beautiful beach and pool.
Thanksgiving feast
Peg Leg’s, the local Nanny Cay restaurant, served a traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberries with a Caribbean twist of calamari cerviche and key lime pie. While most of the US was experiencing freezing weather, we spent Thanksgiving day at the beach and ate our turkey dinner in mid 80 degree weather with warm trade winds at our back.
