Bluewater Marina
Hampton, VA With Berkeley East safely docked in Bluewater Marina, we began getting her ready for a restful summer....
28 August 2013 | Simi, Greece
We have some friends who, for the past three years, have been telling us about the island of Simi in the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. We’ve heard from them, over and over again, about this gorgeous, dramatic, charming island. It was their “favorite” they said, but they really could not explain why. Finally, we understand what they were talking about. There is not much to do in Simi Town; eat a meal, hang at a café, have a swim, or take a walk, but that’s enough.
The rest of the island is almost impossible to see, except by water and even then, it is deep and very difficult to anchor, still everyone does.
And the small settlement of Panormittis looks like a deserted façade, yet every night the secluded bay is full of boatloads of people taking in the view.
Even the surrounding rocks of Seskli seem to soak up the Simi ambiance.
And despite the late summer crowds, Simi sparkled. It was our 26th Greek island and the last for the season. After Simi, we were off to Turkey, excited to discover a new country but sad to leave this unique Greek island that quickly became one of our very favorites. And like our friends, we cannot really explain why. It’s just a feeling. Simi is magic.
