Running into an old friend.

Grand Harbour, Malta

As we entered Grand Harbor in Malta, one of the first things we saw were three giant masts rising above the fort. We wondered if it was the Maltese Falcon, one of the largest, and most luxurious, sailing yachts in the world. Sure enough, as we rounded the corner there she was. At 289 feet long and 42 feet wide, she is very impressive.

We are lucky enough to have a cruising friend who works on the Maltese Falcon, so we contacted Jeremy to catch up, and he graciously offered to give us a tour. Needless to say we were amazed. Everything is super-sized. The three freestanding rotating carbon fiber masts are over 200′ tall with 15 sails. They look to be almost 4′ in diameter at the base.

The line, winches, engines….. are all massive.
The interior is equally impressive and beautiful. She has six luxurious guest cabins, huge living areas and a crew of 18 to support every need the owner or guests could have.

The last time we saw Jeremy was on Grenada in the Caribbean. He was working on a very nice Beneteau 57, and we never imagined we’d run into him three years later, across the Atlantic in Malta, where he’d give us a tour of “his” $150 million yacht and tell us stories of cruising with the “other half.” Cruising is like that, you say goodbye to someone never knowing if you will ever see them again, and often end up finding them in the most unusual places.
