Too much fun to blog
I am sure most of you have recognized that the blog hasn’t been updated in a while. And those of you that follow us...
Sao Miguel is the largest island in the Azores and its commercial center. The town of Pont Delgada, the capital, is a large city with a lot of activity, but once in town, you can still see the picturesque churches and 16th century buildings.
At each stop, there were fewer and fewer ARC Europe boats. Some stayed in the last port to explore longer, while others needed to get back to reality and left for home. By now those of us that were left were getting to know each other pretty well.
We spent a day touring the island and got a sense of why it was called the green island.
As part of the tour we stopped at a natural hot springs and went swimming while the locals used the underground hot springs to cook our lunch.
During the last few days we completed the prep for our final passage to mainland Europe and attended the prize-giving ceremony for the Bermuda to Horta passage. Crossing the Atlantic was award enough, but we were very proud when Berkeley East got 3rd place in Cruising Class A. Looking back, we made one tactical error on day three that cost us 1st place, but we didn’t really care, we were glad to have made it across the ocean safely.
