Birds. Birds. Birds.
Islas de Aves Islas de Aves are two separate little island archipelagos separated by about 10 miles of deep water....
To get Berkeley East out of the hurricane zone we sailed her from Charleston, SC to Hampton, Virginia. This was our first offshore passage with just two of us aboard. After almost 90 days at the Charleston City Marina, getting to know the boat better and enjoying the town, we left for the Chesapeake Bay. We had a great sail with light to moderate winds out of the South. Arriving at the South entrance to the Chesapeake Bay 56 hours later and covering over 450 nautical miles, we choose to enter at night. There was a significant amount of traffic from cargo ships as we came into the bay and the winds had pick up to 20 knots making a night entry a little more exciting than planned. Winding our way back into Bluewater Marina in Hampton, VA went without a hitch, but was exciting as we navigated through a thin channel of unlit markers to find the marina. All in all a very successful second passage for Berkeley East.
