It Only Hurts When We Move.
Barcelona, Spain We came back to Barcelona three weeks ago planning to do “a little” boat work, and...
We motor sailed to Ile Fourche, a small island just north of St. Barth’s, and spent the night. We weren’t too impressed with the snorkeling, so we left the next day for Anse de Colombier, a beautiful cove on the north side of the St. Bart’s. This was a good choice because we had some work to do on the boat and needed a break from all the excellent (and expensive) restaurants. After our work was done we moved over to Gustavia, the main and only real port in St. Barth’s. The port was in remarkable shape, given hurricane Ivan had slammed it less than six months ago and the only remaining damage was one dinghy dock that was missing.
The world financial crisis was very evident in St. Barth’s, as there were only 10 mega-yachts at the docks. Most of the mega-yachts could not afford the dock fees and where anchored out with Berkeley East in the bay.
So not much to say about St. Barth’s, except the food was excellent, the people friendly (even though we spoke no French) and the beaches were great. We rented a car again and drove from beach to restaurant, to beach to restaurant to beach, and back to the boat, for two days. After that we were broke and had to leave.
