How Berkeley East spent her winter vacation

Last October, we left Berkeley East on land, tucked into a building, in Didim Turkey. Over the winter, she was given the royal treatment, including a brand new teak deck. Preparing a sailboat for a new deck involves taking everything off the boat, removing cabinet doors and panels, dismantling all stainless, protecting the gelcoat and interior. It is no simple task. Then the old deck has to be removed, board by board, sometimes chip by chip, and the fiberglass has to be sanded and prepped for the new teak. Over the winter, we made two trips back to Turkey to check on the work, and watched the progress daily on the internet via cameras in the hanger. During one trip, we even hand-selected the teak boards to be used on BE. We have been back in Turkey for nearly a month now, working and moving back aboard, and Berkeley East is finally ready to go. She (and her new deck) looks fantastic. Weather permitting; we will set sail tomorrow morning.

We spent several weeks researching companies in Turkey to do the deck work and settled on yachtWORKS at D-Marin Didim. Can, Tufan, Rusen and the entire yachtWORKS crew worked diligently, and the results are excellent.
