Two captains, two admirals and just one boat
Zadar to Rovinj, Croatia & Venice Until last year, George and Trish owned “Gratitude,” Berkeley...
With Berkeley East better than new, we are heading off for the summer.
At a high level, the plan is the same as the last few years – we are going through Greece to Turkey. The big difference is that we are leaving from Turkey this year, not Italy or Spain.
While we saw many Greek islands last year, there are still many to see. So, the plan, subject to change as soon as we leave the dock tomorrow, is to head Northwest from Didim Turkey to Greece – through the Eastern Sporades Islands, to the Northern Sporades Islands, then go North to the Halkidiki peninsula, then East, returning to Turkey in the Dardanelles, Sea Marmara and Istanbul.
After a short break at home in Charlotte, to do some waterskiing, we will return to Berkeley East and start the second half of our season. From Istanbul we plan to cruise up the Bosporus Strait and into the Black Sea. Our initial thoughts of going to Sochi and Crimea fell apart with the recent Russian invasion, so we are going to turn around after visiting a few Turkish ports in the Black Sea and head back to Istanbul. From there we will work our way back South along the Northwestern coast of Turkey and sail over to some of the Greek Eastern Sporades Islands we missed.
This year’s plan is a little off the beaten path. We had never heard of most of the places before we got to this part of the world and we still can’t correctly pronounce them, but that is the fun of this life. Everything is an adventure!
Now that we see this in writing, it sounds a little ambitious, so expect the plan to change.
