The Surprise Island
Union Island, Grenadines West Indies Going to Union Island was not high on our list of “must dos,” but...
The Isle of Capri is one of the most visited places in Italy. Its breathtaking landscapes, sheer cliffs, rocky caves and deep blue water have been an inspiration to poets, lovers and travelers throughout the centuries.
We were looking forward to seeing the island again, but this time in the “off season” rather than during the height of summer. But as we turned Berkeley East into a small cove on the east side of the island, we could not believe how busy it was. Tour boats were everywhere.
Later, we would learn from locals that it is always summer in Capri. Year round, tourists flock to the island to visit the charming towns, and gorgeous coast. And we can’t blame them; it is stunning. We watched as vacationers screamed and jumped into the water as if they had never swam in the ocean before. And we had to smile, and roll our eyes, as people struck the iconic Titantic pose on the bows of boats, happy as clams.
It was very entertaining, and tolerating the noise and rough conditions of the anchorage, caused by the constant boat traffic, was worth the discomfort in order to enjoy the quiet beauty of the evening.
