Our New Year’s celebration was kicked off with the arrival of Tim (Larry’s brother), Teresa, Alyssa and Moriah in St. Maarten. During their stay, we toured St. Maarten by car and sailed to St. Barth’s. The island of St. Maarten is divided across the middle, the northern part is French and the southern part is Dutch, so we were able to experience two completely different cultures in one place.
St. Barth’s, on the other hand, is very French and very beautiful. We anchored in Anse de Columbier for some swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and hiking.
Then on New Year’s Eve, we moved into the main harbor of Gustavia. Here, we were surrounded by hundreds of mega yachts ranging from 150 to 300 feet long. The atmosphere was wild, with big parties, great fireworks, and boats racing through the harbor all night long.
