One more fort
Limnos, Greece In Italy it was churches, we looked at every church we saw, sometimes dragging ourselves inside...
We left Martha’s Vineyard with a north wind blowing 20 – 25 kts, and a forecast of big seas. We were not sure exactly where we would go. While getting back to Hampton, Virginia to prepare for the Caribbean 1500 was necessary, we also thought a trip back through the Chesapeake Bay hitting some of the spots we missed would be fun. Either way, we were up for a three-day passage.
The wind shifted around to the east and dropped to 10 – 15kts during our first night off of Block and Long Islands, making for a comfortable run. With a good breeze behind us, we made the decision to go direct to VA and skip the Chesapeake.
As we made progress south, the temperatures started to warm up and the sea life increased. We where joined by pods of dolphins that spent some time surfing our bow wake.
On the third day out, we found the fish, landing two good sized false Albacore in less than an hour.
We arrived at Blue Water Marina in Hampton 57 hours after leaving Martha’s Vineyard. The next few days were spent getting the boat cleaned up and doing some minor repairs. We were out for 11 weeks and had not had access to fresh water to wash the boat in over six weeks, so there was a lot to do.
Off to the boat show in Annapolis to check out the latest in new sailing gear and then to Charlotte to check on the house and begin preparations for our trip to the Caribbean. We will back and forth between the boat and house getting both ready for the winter during the next few weeks.
The next blog update will come just before we leave for Tortola around November 4th.
