And the sun sets on another great season in the Med
Ischia, Italy October was quickly approaching, time to take Berkeley East into her winter marina. One more week...
On our way south we stopped in at Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. Two great islands.
On Martha’s, we biked most of the island (with a little help from the bus system). We were moored in Edgartown, but saw Vineyard Haven, Gay Head (now called Aquinnah), South Beach and Memensha. We loved this island and can’t believe we have never visited before.
It was great to see a true fishing village (Memensha) that is unchanged by the crowds that summer in MV. We got there as the season was wrapping up, so it was quiet, but the weather was still good.
The Whaling Island – Nantucket
After four days in MV we sailed over to Nantucket for a few days and more bike rides. While we didn’t get to bike around the entire island, we rode from Nantucket (the city) to Sconset and back. We were amazed at the beautiful homes and nice beach. It was great to see the whaling heritage throughout the island. We stopped in the new museum featuring the skeleton of a sperm whale that recently died on Sconset beach. The history and presentation were excellent.
We then headed back to Martha’s Vineyard to see more of the island while waiting for a good weather window to make the three-day passage to Hampton, VA.
